How to write a winning scholarship letter – Sample Scholarship Letter

In this blog, I am going to provide a sample of Scholarship Letter that students can use as reference to request scholarship with their education provider. In my educational career, the only time I paid full tuition fee was during my graduate education at Holmes Institute (I received 2 units scholarship as per their policy, like everyone else). Until my undergraduate education, I never paid a full tuition fee. It was not due to this scholarship letter but due merit based scholarship from past studies. However, the following letter landed me a full room and board scholarship at a number of institutes in the USA including Northeastern University, McNeese State University and Michigan technological University. I also received a 50% scholarship at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University. The statement of purpose/essay that I submitted will be discussed in another blog because an essay is required for admissions and scholarship can be requested after being offered a position to study.

The value of education is something that I have understood since a very young age. Neither of my parents had an opportunity to attend university education, and faced many struggles in their lives because of this. They made a commitment early in my life to do everything within their power to instill in me a love of learning and an understanding of the importance of hard work and dedication.

Because of their love and sacrifice over the years, I have been able to devote the time and energy necessary to academic accomplishment. While in college, I took courses such as advanced Mathematics and Accounting, Economics, and English, Psychology, Logic, Programming Language. I enjoyed the arts and was involved in art, band, and choir. I was able to maintain a good score allowing me to graduate with honors.

Throughout my life, I have participated in extracurricular activities, including valuable volunteer experiences. I have striven for academic excellence, always managing to work to provide some of my basic educational expenses. In addition to focusing on my own studies, I also worked as a math tutor throughout my years in high school as a way of contributing to my family’s budget. In addition to study related activities, I am involved with my local community group where I teach basic guitar lessons to children of age 4-8. I have participated in community cleanup, nursery day, and choir. I feel that by participating in community-related activities I am setting a positive example for the children. During high school, I was an active member of several clubs, and served as treasurer and president. I enjoy the arts and participated in many performances; often involving travel to other parts of Nepal. I belong to Educating Nepal, a nongovernmental organization dedicated to provide free education to children of marginal caste and class. I have volunteered my time to teach them on several occasions.

Finally, I want to go to college. Right now, my focus is on getting into college; not only to make a good future for myself, but for my family, to make them proud. I need to go to college so that I can continue to grow, mature and learn. I need to go to college so that one day I can be an adult capable of strength in the face of adversity, capable of giving back to the community, capable of being an example to others as my family is to me. I don’t expect the college experience to magically transform me into a wise and all-knowing adult. But I am relying on it to help me explore the world of ideas. Armed with this knowledge, I may then be capable of emulating the strongest, most courageous people I know, my parents.

My goal is to become a registered CPA so that I can perform tasks that clients cannot do for themselves. I know that when I reach my goals, I will be able to provide something meaningful to the accounting society. That’s what I am hoping for in college. I want an opportunity to make a difference, and the privilege of having more than a degree. I greatly appreciate your consideration. Please know that any scholarship the university might grant me will make a significant positive impact on my ability to visualize my dreams and turn into reality and will be greatly appreciated. I have always been a diligent student and never had to pay a full tuition fees in my educational career and I do hope the same for future education. My family is capable of providing me with the required financials but if I am considered for the scholarship, the financial burden on me and my family will lessen, and I will be able to focus properly on my studies alone. We can also use the scholarship amount to provide scholarships to some other deserving students in rural parts of my countries. Any sum of scholarship will be significant for students from those areas. I will be highly obliged if I am considered for any available scholarship. If there are further conditions that I must fulfill, please let me know. I am also available for an interview if required.
